Embassies, Consulates and Representations abroad

The Principality of Monaco establishes its presence throughout the five continents thanks to a network of Embassies and Consulates abroad. These representations enable the Principality to monitor relations with the Authorities of the countries concerned.
As of 1st May 2008, Monaco had eight Embassies accredited to seventeen States. These are located in Germany (also accredited to Austria and Poland), Belgium (also accredited to the Netherlands and Luxembourg), Spain, France (also accredited to the Principality of Andorra), Italy (also accredited to Croatia, San Marino and Slovenia), Switzerland (also accredited to Liechtenstein), the Holy See (also accredited to the Order of Malta) and the United States of America.
In addition, the Principality has two “non resident” Ambassadors, that is holding posts in Monaco, who are accredited to Australia, China, India, Japan and Portugal, as well as four Permanent Representations to International Organisations: in New York to the United Nations Organisation, in Geneva to the United Nations Office and other International Organisations with their headquarters in Switzerland, in Strasbourg to the Council of Europe and in Belgium to the European Communities.
The Principality also has 113 Consulates in operation in 62 States. Two Consulate Generals are occupied by Consuls Missus: in London and New York.
As of 1st May 2008, 37 Ambassadors were in office having handed over their Letters of credence to H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince. Two of them (the French Ambassador and the Italian Ambassador) are residents in Monaco; the others are accredited from Paris, Madrid and Brussels.
The permanent representative of the Order of Malta, in office in Monaco, needs to be added to the above figure.
To date, 42 States have an Embassy accredited to Monaco.
